River Action is a UK-based environmental group committed to addressing the severe problem of river pollution.
Our rivers are facing an existential crisis. An overwhelming body of recent evidence confirms that virtually all of the UK’s rivers are polluted beyond legal limits – with many facing severe environmental challenges. Along with sewage discharges from the water companies, the run off of nutrients from intensive agriculture is widely acknowledged as one of the principal causes of this crisis. Meanwhile, government agencies across the UK tasked with the environmental protection of our rivers have had their funding from government cut by up to 75% in the last decade – leaving polluters largely un-monitored, seldom inspected and highly unlikely to ever face prosecution and penalty.
River Action is a UK-based environmental group committed to addressing the severe problem of river pollution. We do this through promoting awareness and education of the causes of environmental malpractice by the food industry and other polluters and by advancing knowledge on river pollution mitigation measures.
