Our rivers, lakes, and seas are choking on pollution—harming wildlife and blocking communities from enjoying these waters for sport and leisure.
We need political action to reform weak regulations and enforce the rules to stop water companies and bad farming practices from polluting unnecessarily.
To make change happen, parliamentarians must understand the problem, back the solutions, and unite to push for real action.

The idea for the APPG was sparked by Ellie Chowns MP, who reached out to River Action to serve as the Secretariat. Surfers Against Sewage joined as Co-Secretariat, representing ocean communities and campaigners.
The group officially launched in October 2024, with Co-Chairs Ellie Chowns (Green Party, MP for North Herefordshire) and Helena Dollimore (Labour Party, MP for Hastings and Rye). Officers include Edward Morello (Liberal Democrat, MP for West Dorset) and Lord John Randall of Uxbridge (Conservative Peer).
After a successful event for MPs, the APPG now boasts over 50 MPs from three major political parties.
Setting up an All Party Parliamentary groups gives rivers a voice in Parliament
As a cross party group, the APPG can work across all parties and with both Peers and MPs to tackle water pollution.
The APPG is developing a programme of events, as well as producing briefings for key political moments such as Bills and debates that advocate for tickling water pollution
