The March for Clean Water was announced with an electrifying film narrated by Sir Stephen Fry, setting the stage for us, the lead organiser, to join forces with over 130 powerful coalition partners. The march attracted more than 15,000 passionate individuals from across the country, including community groups representing everyone from anglers and swimmers to farmers and citizen scientists.
Dressed in blue, the human river flowed from Albert Embankment down Whitehall, culminating in a rally at Parliament Square. As the crowd filled the surrounding streets, they were captivated by an inspiring lineup of films and speakers. Youth voices brought fresh perspectives, joined by Melissa Green of the WI and Cliff Rooney of the GMB Union, representing water workers. Renowned author Robert Macfarlane premiered his stunning new poem, Riversong, accompanied by a breathtaking film by director Charlotte Sawyer. The event reached its crescendo with a rousing speech from naturalist and broadcaster Chris Packham, leaving the crowd ready to demand action for clean water.
